You will be referred to a physiotherapist when your complications can be best treated by a Physiotherapist. Or you can directly see a Physiotherapist if you are convinced that Physiotherapy is best for you.

Some of the earliest documented origins of physiotherapy as a professional dated back to Per Henrik Ling who founded the Royal Central Institute of Gymnastics (RCIG) in 1813 for massage, manipulation, and exercise. Before that, Physicians like Hippocrates, and later Galenus, are believed to have been the first practitioners of physiotherapy by advocating massage, manual therapy techniques, and hydrotherapy to treat people in 460 B.C.

A Physiotherapist treats a wide variety of health problems to improve a range of physical problems associated with different parts of the body. They treat various complications such as, complication in the neuromuscular (brain and nervous system) such as trauma to the brain or spine, musculoskeletal (soft tissues, joints, and bones) such as Neck and back pain, cardiovascular and respiratory systems (heart and lungs and associated physiology) such as asthma and heart problem, etc. Treatment differs from a person to person according to your needs. Some might need physical movement to treat the problem while some might need an assistive device to help. A physiotherapist will advise you according to your needs by identifying your issue and planning a complete treatment.

Where can you get Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy can be done at a clinic or in the comfort of your home. Various Physiotherapists provide Physiotherapy at home. This may also depend according to your mobility. If you have no complications going to a clinic, your physiotherapist may advise you to visit the clinic for treatment, but if your condition is severe, you will be provided home treatment. Also, some clinics provide Physiotherapy at home according to your wish and needs.

What should I expect from Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy will differ according to the complications you are facing and health history etc. Your Physiotherapy will first learn about your medical history to help understand your body. followed by an assessment and diagnosis of your condition. After that, you will receive a unique treatment plan designed for you. It could include both physical exercise and using an assistive device.
