“If you can't change your fate, change your attitude.” ~ Amy Tan

Mental Attitude: Prenatal Depression Linked to Offspring Depression.
A new study shows that children are more likely to have depression at age 18 if their mothers were depressed during pregnancy. The study concludes: "The findings have important implications for the nature and timing of interventions aimed at preventing depression in the offspring of depressed mothers. In particular, the findings suggest that treating depression in pregnancy, irrespective of background, may be most effective."

Health Alert: Quality Years and Stroke.
Researchers in the United Kingdom followed 748 stroke patients over five years to measure the impact of a stoke on quality of life. On average, patients who suffered a minor stroke could expect to lose 2.06 of the next five years to poor health, complications, and/or death. For moderate strokes, the quality years lost increased to 3.35 years and jumped to 4.3 years for severe strokes. According to Dr. Peter Rothwell, a professor with the UK's John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, "Our study should serve as a wake-up call that we need more funding and research for stroke treatments and secondary stroke prevention measures to improve quality of life in stroke survivors."

This circuit enables roundworms to lose weight independently of food intake, and researchers believe a similar circuit may exist in humans.

Obesity is responsible for up to 20% of cancer-related deaths in women, and at least 2.5 hours of moderate-intensity activity, like brisk walking, can reduce breast cancer risk by 18%.

Chiropractic: Excellent Choice.
“Chiropractic spinal manipulation is a safe and effective spine pain treatment. It reduces pain, decreases medication, rapidly advances physical therapy, and requires very few passive forms of treatment, such as bed rest.” Orthopedics Today, February 2003

Wellness/Prevention: Slowing Aging May be a Better Strategy.
New research finds that investing in research aimed at slowing the aging process would result in greater overall gains in quality years compared to continued research on treating specific diseases like cancer and heart disease. Health Affairs, October 2013
